Baby? It’s Cold Outside!

There’s been a lot of controversy about this tune of late, so I thought I might give it a bit of a personal twist based on past experience.

You see, when the temperature on the dock dips low, the waterlines tend to freeze up unless you leave a tap running just a wee little bit. If you don’t keep an eye on the weather forecast, you might wake up to a dry tap otherwise.

So then, a version of “Baby it’s Cold Outside”, but with that “beginning of winter” float-home and live-aboard flavour.

The water won’t flow! (Oh NO! Baby, it’s cold outside)
I can’t make my tea! (Gee baby, it’s cold outside)

The hose on the dock (Is probably hard as a rock)
This isn’t very nice (I’ll bet it’s just full of ice)

The laundry will become a worry (I’ve got plenty of shirts there’s no hurry.)
The sink is as dry as a bone (You’re not facing this all alone.)

So really I’d better scurry (Top of the dock has water if you hurry.)
Maybe I can get a bucket or more (I’ll get you the pail from beside the door.)

The neighbours might think (Yes, they’ll think we were rather silly)
I’ll try to fill the sink. (That we didn’t leave a tap run when it’s chilly.)

I wish I knew how (You’d better get going now.)
To break this spell (At least we aren’t on a well.)

I ought to say, no, no, no sir (It’s your turn with the bucket, buster.)
At least I’m gonna say that I tried (Out the door and into the cold you glide!)

I really must say (Take the bucket and go now)
But baby, it’s cold outside

Someone simply must go (Yes baby, it’s cold outside)
My answer is no (WHAT!? But baby, it’s cold outside!)

Our planning has been (It seems that we just can’t win)
So very bad (At least we have electricity, it’s not all that sad.)

How will I ever do the dishes? (That stuck on egg gunk will be vicious)
My brother will be there at the door (Tell him to bring a gallon or more)

We will have to dine out this evening (We’ll worry later about the cleaning)
But maybe it will warm up some more (We’ve been through this all before)

I’ve gotta get bathed (But baby, the water is out)
My hair looks all frayed (Give me the bucket and just don’t you pout)

You really are grand (I know and I’m going again)
But don’t you see? (How can you do this to me?)

The hose will be thawed tomorrow (You’ll have your water apropos)
At least there’ll be water for tea (And the one who gets it always is me)

I really must say (I’m going on out now)
Baby, it’s cold
Baby, it’s cold outside
