Launching Day 1914
Tedora (Elmera) is back in the water… She came off the cradle at the Maritime Centre with nary a hitch a few days ago. Not bad for a 100 year old girl.
Originally named “Elmera”
Built in 1914 at Esquimalt B.C. by Donald Robertson. It is a Carvel Construction cedar on oak.
Renamed: “Tedora”
The original engine was a Palmer 24 HP which is now at the B.C. Forest Discovery Centre, Duncan.
Tonnage: 14.72 Length:10.7 meters
Depth: 1.3 meters Breath: 3.2 meters
When Tedora was named Elmera
During 1914-20 it was privately owned. Then in 1920-? B.C. Forestry Services owned the boat. They sold it to another private owner who in 2003 donated it to the Cowichan Bay Maritime Centre.
In 2004 Mike Schaefer bought Tedora and has spent the last years completing her restoration.
This week she was out for bottom painting , zincs and inspection this week, the process overseen by Master Shipwright Eric Sandilands.
Geoff Simpson, Royal Navy retired, lived aboard Tedora for many years at Van Isle Marina in Sidney, B.C.
He worked in sales at the marina and also in the car market part time in the 1960’s. One of his favourite pastimes was participating in the annual Sail Past in the Christmas Season.
