Professional shipwright Eric Sandilands is returning to the Cowichan Bay Wooden Boat Society’s wood-room to guide another of his highly successful lapstrake boat building courses.
This is great news for those who wanted to take courses last year, but were unable to do so.
These workshops provide a very full, challenging and rewarding week of work.
During the eight day course students will have the opportunity to rotate through all facets of the construction process, including steam bending ribs, sanding and riveting.
Students come away with basic maritime woodworking skill, sufficient to undertake the construction or repair any number of projects. Some participants have gone on to build their own boats at home after taking the course.
The workshop runs eight days, from August 24th to the 31st (Saturday to Saturday), with room for just eight participants. Class size is kept small on purpose so that everyone has a chance to learn hands-on.
The cost is $855 plus gst and includes a one year membership to the Cowichan Bay Wooden Boat Society, entitling the member to make use of the wood-room for his or her own projects after the course is over.
A non-refundable 250 dollar deposit is required at time of registration. Contact the Society if you have any questions.
Those who would like a chance to own the row boat constructed during the course, will have the opportunity next year to purchase a raffle ticket on it.
Yes, hands-on experience on making a boat! I also want to join! Judging from the pictures, I can say it is a nice boat.
HURRAH!!……good decision !
